My January Inspiration

I find that often after the holidays I go into a creative lull. I spend a lot of energy creating gifts for Christmas, so once the new year arrives I’m feeling burnt out. I try to spend January refueling my creative mind with wonderful works by others.

Prompted by it recently becoming available in the public domain, I purchased an illustrated copy of the Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The work was done by Adam Simpson, an artist who works out of both the US and the UK.

His work in the book is lovely and perfectly captures the style and elegance of Jazz Age New York. I find it most powerful when his illustrations interrupt the words of the novel.

If you’re in need of a little Art Deco inspiration, I highly recommend picking up a copy. It will do well on anyone’s coffee table.
