Quirk Magazine

brand development and implementation for a young women’s magazine

The main objective of this magazine project was to take a current magazine's demographic and create something better. I chose to focus my attention on Seventeen Magazine. While Seventeen is the most widely circulated magazine among the 12-19 year-old female demographic, I believe that their scrapbooking style is overly simplistic. Young women deserve thoughtful design!

Print Magazine

The name of my magazine, “Quirk”, is meant to convey the endearing, albeit occasionally odd, habits of young women. After developing the wordmark, I moved on to creating sample print pages and then designed two covers, an article, a table of contents, and a horoscope page. These all show the range of possibilities for the grid system I put into place.

Digital Magazine

After the development of print pages, I prototyped the concept for an interactive version of the magazine to be viewed on a tablet. There is a search box that allows readers to go directly to articles that interest them. In order to proceed through the magazine, readers must perform various motions, creating a more immersive environment. The sample screens display the home-screen, search feature, and article in both a landscape and portrait format.
